Ewan was born in England, his mother Lauren Darrel, an MI5 Officer, his father, Elias, the Agent she was assigned to run surveillance on shortly after the Vriskae arrival. Elias, more an intellectual or detective than a fighter, had tried to found a working relationship with the Government from his first day. For this reason, the British government offered to provide him with assistance in his mission, believing that they were really spying on him without his knowledge. Elias, being a superhuman detective, was probably aware of this from the start, however he accepted the offer, seeing value in both the assistance and them 'spying' on him.
This professional relationship did not last long, and about a year later Ewan was born, much to the interest of the British government. The initial intent of the Government had been to have Ewan and his mother moved somewhere out of the way for observation, however Elias caught wind of this with relative ease, and so used the influence he had built up over his first year on earth to put a stop to the idea.
Growing up, Ewan progressed mentally at an astounding rate, and while people in the government wanted to see if he could be made into some kind of weapon or tool, as long as Elias was around, they were unwilling to try anything. These first 9 years of Ewan's life are the ones he for a long time thought of as the best in his life, and he was able to dally in whatever took his interest, particularly in the last 3 years before Elias left.
Ultimately, Ewan and Lauren had 2 weeks warning before Elias had to return, and so (Unbeknownst to Ewan), Lauren put into motion plans she and Elias had had ready for the past 5 years. To this end, on the day Elias left, Ewan and his mother vanished, along with a huge sum of money Elias had been assembling for the past 6 years.
Ewan and his mother had crossed the channel into France, using one of several fake identities Lauren had prepared for them over the past few years. In France, Lauren had pre purchased a small house out of the way that they went to live in temporarily. In France Ewan was, for the first time, made to study subjects out of more than just whim, as Lauren had him taught many practical areas of knowledge, useful for getting by, as well as allowing him to just go between odd topics that interested him as he felt like. While Ewan was willing to train in most of the proposed areas, there was one exception, as he refused to learn any self defence or combat skills, as he was beginning to see the world from a more pacifist viewpoint, for a multitude of reasons.
He stayed in France for 7 years, in which time he discovered a couple of long term interests which he managed to stay with, engineering and technological design to some extent, and more general investigation and inquiry, seeing a real challenge for his obviously superhuman intellect might exist there. It was during these 7 years, when he was aged 12 that he discovered his Facet, Morphic Resonance, which allowed him to pick up information from the general populace through psychic means.
Eventually however, when he was aged 16, the British government finally tracked him down, and so he and his Mother were forced to move locations once again, this time travelling to the USA, figuring noone would think of it as a sensible choice, and confident it provided them with options. In the USA, they were forced to move every year, however he chose to focus his studies on engineering and Architecture, with some additional side research into science and some general technological knowledge, and while he never studied at any school, at the end of 4 years he had knowledge equivalent to a PHD.
With the british still on their tail however, his Lauren knew a more perminent solution was required, and so at the end of their 4th year in America, when once again they were forced to shed their old identities and move on, she had Ewan handle most of the work of changing their identities and preparing their next shift. Ewan trusted her, as he had no reason not too, and so went along, unaware of her plan. While Ewan was securing the required documents, Lauren deliberately made herself visible to those hunting them, before attracting their attention before leading them away from Ewan, who they had not yet found.
Because of this, she never showed up where they had agreed to meet, and so Ewan was forced to assume she had been captured, and went on as she had made him agree to, should the situation occur when she was caught.
On his own for the first time, Ewan reevaluated how he and his mother had been covering their tracks before, and as he set out to his next destination, changed his strategy to hopefully succeed in avoiding his pursuers, taking more time to fashion a new identity, getting a PHD forged, along with enough details to make him simply seem like an oddball immigrant.
He arrived in Ambrosia 3 and a half years ago, renting a decent apartment in old ambrosia with the last of the money his parents had stashed all those years ago. Over the past 3 1/2 years, he has managed to find work as an architect and engineer, and this work in the redevelopment of the city has allowed him to gain decent social standing among the upper class, along with providing an impressive source of money, which he has been able to further add to through intelligent investment, trading, and other ventures, all legitimate.
While his day job involves all this, he spends what time he can as an unpaid private detective, investigating anything involving, or that seems to involve, starborn, mainly in an attempt to find something to challenge himself intellectually. He has so far only found one thing that truly challenges him in this regard however, the question of what has happened to his mother, if she is alive, if she has been caught, or something else.
